Description
In the past seven years I have worked as a linguist at the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics and recently the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Cambridge conducting scholarly research, publishing articles, teaching, giving talks. My main fields of interest are:
− Language change and variation (i.e. how languages vary and develop)
− Language description and typology (i.e. how languages differ in terms of types)
− Semitic languages (like Aramaic, Arabic and Hebrew)
− Language learning, teaching and preservation (e.g. how could speakers preserve a dying language?)
− Bi- and multilingualism
I\'m a trained lecturer and teacher. Since 2012 I’ve taught several courses aimed at the academic study of Semitic languages and their cultural-historical background.
I’m specialized in historical, descriptive and applied linguistics, second language teaching and Aramaic (also known to people as Chaldean, Syriac, and Assyrian), particularly its modern varieties spoken by Jews and Christians in or from the Middle East. My current research is about endangered language documentation and revitalization involving vulnerable speech communities in the Middle East like Aramaic.
