Pursues academic research activitiesMain research activities
It focuses on the analysis of social relations in a local and global perspective with emphasis on the Slovak and Central European context. Areas of scientific interest include research into cultural traditions and ways of life, as well as the social, cultural and material aspects of economic and political transformation after 1989 in rural and urban settings. Particular emphasis is placed on the phenomena of collective identities, memory, ethnicity, religion, the issue of minorities and migration, as well as on the issue of cultural heritage. Current world theoretical and methodological trends and approaches are applied in research projects.
Key research areas include the Holocaust and 'People in Non-Democratic Regimes. 1938-1989 in the memory of the Slovak majority and the Jewish community. An ethnological perspective.' Regular seminars and academic events are hosted by the Institute.
