The Käte Hamburger Kolleg in Bochum is dedicated to the dynamics of the historical emergence and spread of religious traditions. The mutual interpenetration of religions and their consolidation into complex structures, the so-called "world religions", is particularly in focus. The regional focus is on the Euro-Asian double continent to develop an overarching theory of religious transfer and to make it applicable for research. In addition to the external Visiting Research Fellows, numerous Bochum scholars from the subjects of Religious Studies, Classical Philology, Protestant and Catholic Theology, Islamic Studies, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, Sinology, Indology, Jewish Studies, History and Philosophy are involved in researching the dynamics of the history of religion. It is one of the largest joint research projects in the humanities of the Ruhr University Bochum.
