Main research activities
Since 1991, the Faculty of History and Philosophy of the Babeș-Bolyai University has a Jewish Studies research institute. The Dr. Moshe Carmilly Institute for Hebrew and Jewish History’s aims are to discover, inventorise, microfilm and explore archival documents, books and periodicals about the Jews in Romania, written in Hebrew, Yiddish, Romanian, German, Hungarian, and Latin.
The Dr. Moshe Carmilly Institute for Hebrew and Jewish History publishes Studia Judaica, an academic journal with contributions on all aspects of Jewish Studies including history, anthropology, religion, Jewish thought, philosophy, literature and the arts.
Researchers at the Dr. Moshe Carmilly Institute for Hebrew and Jewish History curate the collections of the Virtual and Documentary Museum of the Holocaust in Northern Transylvania. The virtual and the documentary museums were opened in 2017. It is an interactive museum consisting of a series of digital collections which are essentially virtual exhibitions that provide chronologically structured information on the events of the Holocaust in northern Transylvania.
