Teaching across the degrees includes: basic courses in Jewish studies (Hagim, Tanach, Rabbinic Literature) and more specialised courses and lectures around: Talmud; Midrashim; Medieval Bible commentaries; Kabbala; Hassidism; Jewish Prayer; Jewish History; History of the Jews in Germany; Hebrew Manuscripts; Jewish Philosophy (Mahshevet Yisrael); Yiddish; Modern Hebrew (Ivrit).

Pursues academic research activities
Main research activities
Research focuses on ancient Jewish literatures, especially rabbinical literature, Jewish prayer and philosophy. Another area of responsibility is the maintenance and documentation of the old Jewish community library, which is on permanent loan from the Mainz Jewish community in the university. Further research focuses on Hebrew manuscripts and Yiddish texts.
