Awards degrees in Jewish Studies as a sole or major componentMaster's degree in Jewish cultural history: The subject of the course is Jewish cultural history from antiquity to the present, which is viewed from a historical, cultural and literary, Judaistic and religious-historical perspective. Particular focal points of the course are: Concepts of the Jewish religion, Jewish literature, Jewish history, cross-epochal questions of Jewish identities as well as the topic of anti-Semitism and genocide research, combined with questions of remembrance politics. Language skills in Modern Hebrew and Yiddish are a mandatory part of the course.

Main research activities
The Center for Jewish Cultural History (ZJK) of the ZJK is an interdisciplinary institution of the University of Salzburg. Committed to a cultural-scientific method, they deal with Jewish history, culture, literature and religion. Important research areas include rabbinic literature, Yiddish literature and the subject of the politics of memory. Their research focuses on forms of expression of Jewish identities, the experience of belonging and foreignness, the coexistence of cultures, minorities and majorities, the problems of migration and extensive cultural exchange.

The ZJK is a member of the Working Group for Jewish Studies in Austria (AGJÖ), an informal association of university and non-university institutions that has existed since 2008 and is concerned with the research, publication and teaching of Jewish history and culture. Members of the AGJÖ are the Institute for Jewish Studies at the University of Vienna (www.univie.ac.at/Judaistik/), the Institute for Jewish History in Austria (INJOEST; www.injoest.ac.at), the Center for Jewish Studies of the Karl Franzens University Graz (CJS; http://juedischestudien.uni-graz.at/).
